#bsocials16 final projects

Assignment Overview

This semester you have worked hard to create beautiful social media documents for your clients in the form of web sites, style guides, newsletters, and videos (to name a few). You have documented your work as you completed it using Instagram and Twitter and have created weekly reflections about that work in Storify.

Your final two-part assignment for the course will be to coalesce your work into single documents that can be shared on the Beautiful Social web site.

Part 1. Our #bsocials16

On Saturday morning, April 9, I made this little video telling the social media story of my time in #bsocials16 using the Replay App on my iPhone (App Store link):

The Replay App searches Facebook and Instagram, but not Twitter (which is very weird). But, you can download Twitter images to your phone rather easily, so all it took was finding the tweets and then downloading the images. The whole video took about an hour  to create. Note that I did buy the pro version, which was $14.99. But, after sending videos of my sons skiing to my parents, it was well worth their reaction.

I’d like your project teams to make your own “Our #bsocials16” video that tells your team’s #bsocials16 story.

You may use the Replay App or one of the dozens of other similar apps that are available. The app you choose should have the ability to search social media via username and hashtag (hashtag search is key), have multiple editable styles, and pre-approved copyright-free music (the Replay app has about 70 songs).

Video Specifics

  • it should be between 2:30 – 3:00 minutes long
  • it should include social media tweeted, grammed, or other by every member of your project team
  • it can include photos or videos you took but did not put online
  • it can include material you make specifically for the video, but that material should not take up more than 15 seconds of the total video
  • it should be created collaboratively, not just by one person who says that will be responsible for it

As well as the group video, individual members should feel to create their own #bsocials16 videos, as well. Fellows, I’d like you to create one, as well.

Due Date

  • Saturday, April 23 by 11:00pm
Tweet a link to your video using the #bsocials16 hashtag. Bill will download the video and add it to the Beautiful Social YouTube channel. He will also create a blog post to the Beautiful Social web site.

Showing the Videos

  • Sunday, April 24, at Bill’s house with his wife and boys in Media, 12:00pm – 3:00pm
We will watch all the videos along with lunch of some sort and other end of the semester fun. Watch for an email with specifics.

Part 2. Client Case Study

I’d like you to make a Client Case Study, which will be featured on the Our Work page of the Beautiful Social web site:

case-study-picframe

Your case study should be modeled on the ones already posted on the Our Work page and include a mixture of alphabetic text and visuals. It should have the following section headings:

  • CLIENT, where you discuss the organization and who the organization serves (75 words)
  • CHALLENGE, where you discuss what needed to be created (100 words)
  • STRATEGIC THINKING, where you discuss how you approached the work and what social media and/or non-proft (or other, like design) theories you looked to when creating your content (150 words)
  • RESULT, where you discuss and showcase the results of your work (125 words)

Your case study should include high resolution images of you interacting with your client (if you had the opportunity) or of your team working on the project.

Steps to Complete the Work

  1. Create a folder in a shared team GoogleDrive space and compose the written part of the case study. Do not rush this part of the work. Since the length of each section is no more than 150 words, it is more than usually important to pay extra attention to each word chosen and each sentence composed.
  2. Paste into the document URLs for any videos you would like included.
  3. Upload to the folder all images you would like included. You should have one very large image that will serve as the header to the case study (as on the Our Work page) and other smaller images
  4. Share the whole folder with beautifulsocial@gmail.com by the due date below.
  5. Your project team fellow will upload everything to the Beautiful Social web site.
